Can you believe it's almost April? Where has the time gone? Seems like I was just roaming the halls of KBIS 2018 in Orlando. Our Chapter hit the ground running at the beginning of the year and we are looking forward to another great year of events, meetings, social gatherings, and education opportunities. Our first meeting of the year, our Kick-Off Event, was held at Bella Pietra Showroom in February. It was great to see so many new faces that night as we officially installed the 2018 Chapter Officers, networked, and enjoyed the beautiful new products in the showroom. We had a fantastic turn-out that evening and would like to continue having that kind of attendance at every function. Thank you again to Bella Pietra for hosting our first event and to our members (and potential new members) for supporting the Chapter.
In January, your new Aloha Chapter officers attended the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Orlando during Design + Construction Week. As with recent shows, KBIS was spectacular and only getting better and bigger each year (see photos here). Our new chapter officers attended a couple days of training and enjoyed the benefits of being an NKBA volunteer (National picked up the tab for our flights, hotel, show tickets, etc). We also had the pleasure of seeing our very own Breck Dangler, CMKBD, accept his first-place award at the National Design Competition (pictured above). The caliber of talent coming from Hawaii is being recognized at the National level and we hope more of our members take advantage of the opportunity of showcasing their work for KBIS 2019 (to be held in Vegas next year). Congratulations to all the designers and contractors that submitted an entry for the National competition. Keep up the good work!
At the end of January, our Chapter was invited to participate with BIA Hawaii at The Big Show (BIA’s big remodeling show), and several of our designers and contractors volunteered their time for our first ever NKBA Design Panel Discussions for both show days. Our design panels discussed current design trends and offered their expertise on a variety of topics. We were pleased to see a lot of audience participation and it was a great success to promote our Chapter and our members. We will be participating in BIA Hawaii’s August remodeling show with an NKBA booth and continue with two days of our Design Panel Discussions. More information will be coming up about this opportunity for our members to man the NKBA booth and participate in the design panels.
We are working hard getting our Calendar of Events finalized for the year. We will continue to support our industry peers BIA Hawaii, ASID Hawaii and AIA Honolulu and send out information of their events and CEU opportunities that may be of interest to our members. Next month, April 19th, is the first installment of our Living and Working Well series. The upcoming meeting, “Getting Things Done”, presented by Cynthia Yamasaki, will get things started! We will learn how to work with less stress, get organized and set the pace to achieve our goals for the year. This meeting is perfect for designers, contractors, vendors, everyone. More information can be found on the RSVP flyer.
Other NKBA Chapter events and member/industry partner events planned for 2018: The annual Ferguson Expo in May, CEU event at Servco Showroom in July, NKBA booth and Design Panel Discussions at BIA Hawaii remodeling show in August, Outer-Island CEU and Networking events (Hilo and Kona) in September, Kitchen & Bath Month and Networking event in October at Cosentino Showroom, National Guest Speaker in November hosted by Servco, and Industry Holiday Party at the end of November at Koolau Ballrooms. More information and updates will be posted on these events as details become finalized.
I would like to acknowledge our generous and wonderful sponsors who help make our events possible throughout the years. This year, please help me thank and welcome the following: Servco Home & Appliance Distribution, Reflections Glass, LG Hausys, Cosentino, Riggs Distributing Inc, Daltile, Top Priority, Bosch, Gaggenau, Thermador, and Neolith.
On behalf of the 2018 Chapter Officers, thank you for supporting our chapter and design/construction community. We look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events and working with you to make our association stronger and bigger each year.
